Toulouse University Hospital launches a biodiversity inventory of its seven sites
Céline Michel presents the approach to integrating biodiversity into the governance of the establishment.
Céline Michel, Coordinator, Quality, Safety, Customer Relations and Risk Management Department.
" We naturally began by meeting our gardeners, who are keen to respect nature, but are often at a loss when it comes to the complexity of the subject, as the Toulouse University Hospital is spread over seven sites, in urban and peri-urban areas, and located up to eighty kilometers around Toulouse. There ' s a big difference in terms of territory and proximity to green spaces and urban densification," explains Céline Michel.
Over the last few months, we've been taking stock of all the initiatives we've taken, from the ban on pesticides in 2015, to the beehives on the Oncopole site, theeco-pasture plot to becreated in 2023 on the Rangueil site, the educational therapeutic gardens created on the right and left, and the garden on the 200m2 roof terrace of the children's hospital.
In addition, the identification of the Pallid Swift, a protected species, nesting in the facade of the Hôtel Dieu, the historic site of the Toulouse University Hospital, was a significant event, delaying the renovation work until the departure of this small bird in the spring.
Accompanied by the Primum Non Nocerea complete mapping of biodiversity is underway, including field observations and territorial analysis. This ambitious project, aimed at assessing the flora and fauna on all CHU sites, marks a major step forward in the hospital's environmental commitment.
