Biodiversity is part of the CSR project at Arles Hospital

The Centre Hospitalier d'Arles has included a focus on biodiversity in its 2021-2026 CSR project. For the past two years, the hospital has been highlighting the benefits of biodiversity and its ecosystem in preventing and curing disease. Sylvie Pigeron, Director of Purchasing, Material Resources and CSR at CH d'Arles, emphasizes the importance of this approach.

A collective commitment

In 2024, the hospital created an educational health-biodiversity trail open to all, to enhance the ecological richness of the site. "We want to show just how much added value our environment can provide as part of the patient pathway ," explains Sylvie Pigeron. Located in the Camargue region, the facility benefits from an exceptional ecosystem. It has joined forces with local institutional, economic and community partners, all of whom are keenly aware of the need to preserve the ecosystem. " Together, we are developing an ethic of collective responsibility to preserve this exceptional ecosystem ," explains Sylvie Pigeron.

Concrete actions

The CH d'Arles has carried out an inventory of the fauna on its site, identifying 23 wild species and 3 domestic species. This inventory led to the creation of a biodiversity-health action plan, in collaboration with local partners such as Arles town council, the CCM, the PETR, and the Pôle d'Équilibre Territorial et Rural du Pays d'Arles.

" A small concrete example of preservation is the installation of a false ceiling to allow swallows to nest in the airlock frequented by firefighters and ambulance drivers, and facilitate the cohabitation of all in the same space."
