Every year, the NGO Global Footprint Network calculates a planet's or a country's "Day of Overshoot". This is the date on which the ecological footprint exceeds the biocapacity of the planet or a country. In 2018, the global "day of overshoot" was August 1. In France, it arrived much earlier: on May 5. It's a safe bet that this day has been brought forward again this year, and that in a few days' time, France will already be living on credit.
