Amiens University Hospital's eco-logistics unit aims for THQSE certification
The logistics department of the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire (CHU) d'Amiens Picardie, supported by the Primum Non Nocere agency, is planning to obtain THQSE certification by the end of the year. " If this becomes a reality, we'll be the first non-healthcare tertiary department in France to be awarded the THQSE label," explains Julien Lebrun, head of logistics at the CHU.
A year ago, the logistics department set up an eco-logistics unit comprising 15 staff. The approach involves taking into account both internal and external stakeholders, including other CHU departments. The THQSEcertification, although it mainly rewards logistics, encourages a global approach.
Biodiversity and creativity
" Our priority is biodiversity. We have reused our broken pallets to create flower boxes and picnic tables. Some of our 170 logistics staff are carpenters or cabinet-makers in their spare time, which has facilitated this approach," explains Julien Lebrun. We have drawn up an action plan covering light, plastic and chemical soil pollution. We're also thinking about the development of our outdoor spaces, with a health trail and therapeutic gardens for our EHPAD (old people's home) .
Beehives for eco-care
The CHU has also installed a dozen beehives. The project took an unexpected turn: " Initially, I was thinking simply of producing honey for our teams, but the care management wanted to use the honey for therapeutic purposes. Our projects crossed paths! I'm a satisfied logistician, because my aim is to provide solutions for carers, to give them back their time ".
Raising awareness and bringing people together
The logistics team raises awareness of biodiversity among professional staff and visitors to the hospital and beyond: " We work closely with the Amiens metropolitan area to raise awareness among all professionals and even private individuals ".
The THQSE label is now part of a three-year plan to improve quality of life and working conditions. The logistics department, a forerunner in this field, is now inspiring other departments: "now the operating room, pharmacy and maternity ward are following us in this labeling, so it's federating. "
The CHU is looking to make its spaces more attractive to young people in particular, and to retain its teams: " How can we brighten up our spaces? Who knows, tomorrow you could be one of the visitors enjoying these green spaces at Amiens University Hospital!" concludes Julien Lebrun.
